Arcade Fire webcast to be directed by Terry Gillia

Arcade Fire has decided to broadcast their  Madison Square Garden live on  YouTube Aug. 5, but the video will not be  directed by the filmmaker Spike Jonze, as had been originally anticipated. Instead, another acclaimed director will be helming the transmission: Terry Gilliam.

Gilliam rose to fame as a member of '70s British comedy troupe Monty Python, and the genius behind all the art and animation from the Python sketches. He directed art-house classics Brazil and Twelve Monkeys.

Gilliam's latest film was last year's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which starred Johnny Depp and Tom Waits, as well as  Heath Ledger, who died during filming. It was the actor's last appearance on film.

The Arcade Fire show broadcast live on Aug. 5 will be the first collaboration between YouTube and American Express. John Legend and The Roots are also on deck to have their concerts broadcast live on the web in similar fashion.
